Few News Levels to Crayon Physics
I was supposed to write something not Crayon Physics related, but I think I can’t pass this opportunity. I know there’s a lot of players anxiously waiting for the level editor. But apparently there are also players, who got tired of waiting and decided to crank out their own levels. During the weekend Otávio posted a comment that contained the first ever fan made level to Crayon Physics. There are some details in the comments on how he did it and it’s pretty impressive. And yesterday I received another fan made level, by logr.
So I also decided to crank out one level and zip all the levels in to one file and now we have a semi official “level-pack-mod” to Crayon Physics. It has only three four new levels, but they are all delightfully difficult.
You can download the level pack from here (270 KB).
To install it, just extract the files and folders to the same folder where Crayon Physics is located. The “level_pack_01.bat” should be in same the folder where crayon.exe is located. To play to the new levels just run the “level_pack_01.bat” in the root of the game.
Thanks to Otávio and logr for taking the time to hack together the levels. I know that is wasn’t all that easy of a task.
Edit June 20th, 2007: Just when I got the level pack published logr posted another level
So there are now four levels in the levels level pack. Check out the screenshot of logr’s new ice level.

It’s a nice feeling when people you don’t know appreciate a game you’ve made enough to mod it

Yeah, tell me about it

Cool!

The best thing since sliced bread, gotta love the challenge. Almost beat them all, except for that logr’s ice level.
Looking forward to more of these.

Yep, the logr’s ice level is pretty though. If Otàvio or logr (or anyone else) end up creating more levels, I’ll publish them here.

Thanks once more!
Though ice level was easier than second one (of new), where star is high and near ball starting position

My whole dev team loves your mini-games. My 5 year old adores crayon prhysics. He plays it using a Wacom tablet.

@localGhost: Yeah, the ice level didn’t seem so hard after that crazy logr level were the star was on the opposite side of that cross. But the fun thing about the ice level is that, the surfaces are really slippery. I mean they feel like they’re made of ice (logr tweaked the friction properties of the structures).
@Gary: Thanks for the kind words. It’s always nice to hear that I’ve managed to create a game that even kids can enjoy.

Wow. I just beat the ice levels, and I’ve got to say this: Iogr is a Blofeld-style evil genius. I was only able to beat the Ice Climber-themed level through brute force (i.e., creating a giant, jostling pile of boxes underneath the ball.) It wasn’t an elegant solution, but the genius of the game is that patience is rewarded.
(Please never release a version of this game with a time limit. I’m begging you over here.)
And Iogr, Otávio, way to go. Fantastic work.

I discover this game this morning, and I found it amazing. Easy to understand, but a lot of solutions to each level. Even if the physics is not perfect, I really enjoy the concept and the game.
I made my own level too, it can be downloaded at tihs url :

(sorry if there are mistakes in my english, but it’s not my native language)

A clever and nice level! I like it.

@MagFlare: I agree with you, that the Ice Climber level was just torture
I’d really like to see logr manages to complete his own levels. Or maybe he doesn’t, maybe he just does them to piss off other people
@Ichabod: Big thanks for the new level. Btw. Don’t worry about your English, I’m not a native English speaker as well and I understood you perfectly.

Thanks for the new level as well. I’ll try to write a blog post about it this evening.

August 26th, 2007 at 5:04 pm
ive downloaded the levels but i cant use them
how do i play them the levels

i dont like many of the new levels as they seem to rely on what i consider a flaw or bug in the play mechanics of bouncing the ball up by drawing boxes under it.
i really wish that levels designed would rely simply on physics rather than exploitable game mechanics.
my note for DIY level designers: please design with physics in mind, not bugs.

Fantastic game!
Just found out about it through the Youtube video.
I’d be willing to pay good money to play many of those levels on my tablet.
Very enjoyable game, didn’t play the extra levels yet. saving them for when I’d be bored.
The exploit with bumping the ball is what made me able to finish the game, if it wasn’t supposed to happen, how the hell are you able to get the ball to a higher place with only squares?

Wow,
Found out about this via DL.TV. I can see this easily becoming a GOTY for several genres. I’m looking forward to, and willing to pay for, Deluxe!
And to answer Doron, at least with the first version you can draw under objects; straight lines work particularly well.
Cheers,
R~

Found out about the game on YouTube (the Deluxe preview) and thought it looked too good to be true… How wrong I was
Love the game (and the extra levels) for its simple genius, just like the classics. Hypnotic soundtrack too.
