Day 2: Music of Crayon Physics Deluxe

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

Day 2 of our 7 day journey to the release of Crayon Physics Deluxe for the PC.

The music played a really important role in Crayon Physics (the 5 day prototype), not only as something that set the mood for the game, but it actually influenced the content of the game as well. Back in May 2007 I asked Austin Wintory (he did the soundtrack for fl0w) to create some kind of a soundtrack for the prototype. I didn’t know what the music should be like and Austin was really busy at the time so the whole kinda just collapsed and nothing came out of it.

During the last two days of development I was surfing the web for something suitable that might work with game. At the time I was thinking of cheery children’s music, but I wasn’t really happy with the association of cheery children’s music and crayons. It felt cheesy and I didn’t want to make a cheery, bright, loud children’s game. So while I was surfing for suitable music I accidentally stumbled on the song Lullaby by _ghost. It was love at first hearing, I knew that it was the kind of music that the game really needed.

The song is also in the full version of the game (thanks to _ghost, skoria and Brad Sucks for allowing me to use it).

The other thing that I stole from Bit Blot (the other one being this 7 day behind the scenes journey idea) was Alec Holowka’s awesome music. I didn’t actually steal it, I just forced Alec to compose me a song for Crayon Physics Deluxe. Ever since I played Aquaria I’ve been a huge fan of both Derek and Alec, because they created such a beautiful game. So it was awesome that Alec was willing enough to do a song for the game. The name of the song is Afternoon Snooze 🙂

The last song in our short soundtrack came as a total surprise to me. It’s from Stian Stark and it’s called Crayon Dreams. Stian emailed me pretty late in the development and offered one his tracks for the game. And I was surprised to hear how well it fit the style of the current main menu in the game. Thus we made a deal and I’m happy to announce that Crayon Dreams is one of the tracks in Crayon Physics Deluxe.

Day 1: Crayon Physics Deluxe for the iPhone

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

Day 1 of our 7 day journey to the release of Crayon Physics Deluxe for the PC. Each day I’ll post about behind the scenes kinda stuff about Crayon Physics Deluxe and on day 7 (January 7) the full version and a free demo of the game will be released.

Today is kinda of a special day since Hudson released the iPhone port of Crayon Physics Deluxe.

The whole porting of a game to another platform feels really weird. I didn’t have that much to do with the actual porting, so seeing the game on another platform is both exiting and terrifying. Seeing their marketing material for the game is even weirder. The single biggest selling point seems to be, that it was a “youtube phenomena”. Not something I would say about the game, after seeing bunch of the real youtube phenomenas.

Big Crayon Colored News

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Helsinki, Finland, 31st of December 2008 - Kloonigames is proud to announce that CRAYON PHYSICS DELUXE will be available for the PC on JANUARY 7 2009

The very official press release of Kloonigames.

Happy New Year, here’s some pretty big news in few words:

  • Crayon Physics Deluxe will be released on the PC January 7 2009.
  • There’s an official iPhone version of the game, released January 1st (to the best of my knowledge) and it’s been done by Hudson.
  • I’m kicking off 7 days of Crayons to celebrate the launch of the game (idea shamefully stolen from Bit Blot).
  • Everyone who has pre-ordered the game before January 3rd will get the full game on January 4th (few days before the official launch date) 🙂

Crayon Physics Deluxe Beta is here

Crayon Physics Deluxe Beta is here
Huge thanks to everyone who has pre-ordered the Crayon Physics Deluxe. As an early Christmas present I’ve started emailing beta invitations of the game to all the pre-orderers. It’s going to take a little while to send out all the emails, so DON’T PANIC if haven’t gotten your email invitation yet. You should be able to get the beta before Christmas eve, unless the server explodes or something equally frighting happens.

New Website and Pre-Orders for Crayon Physics Deluxe

Monday, November 10th, 2008

We have a new website for Crayon Physics Deluxe at www.crayonphysics.com. There’s not much there yet, but hopefully there will be soon 😉

crayonphysics.com
www.crayonphysics.com

I’ve also setup the pre-orders for Crayon Physics Deluxe. You can pre-order the game from PayPal now. (You don’t have to have a PayPal account, just click the continue located on top of the credit card row).

Pre-order bonuses

  • Save 5$. The prize of the finished game is going to be 20$, but if you pre-order during November you’ll get the game for 14.95$.
  • Get a change to participate in the Crayon Physics Deluxe beta. Everyone
who pre-orders the game will be able to play the beta version of the
    game once it’s released.

The way this works is after your transaction has been processed by PayPal you’ll receive a confirmation email from Kloonigames with a super secret key. Once the game is ready to be beta tested, you’ll get another email with a download link to the game. (And I’ll also email you once the game is finished so you can download the full version as well).

There won’t be any kind of DRM, because I’ve found that it only hurts the real customers (e.g. I’m an owner of Space Rangers 2, which I can’t play because the DRM is incompatible with my computer). And no DRM will stop people from pirating your game.

If you have any questions you can email support@crayonphysics.com or write a comment.
