Happy Birthday Crayon Physics Deluxe

Crayon Physics Deluxe is now 1 year old. I can hardly believe it.
In October Kyle and Ron did this experimental pay what you want sale for the 1 year birthday of World of Goo (most excellent game btw.). In the results of that sale they pointed out that they would like other developers to try this model as well to get a bunch of different results. I thought the 1 year birthday of Crayon Physics Deluxe was as good time as any to do this so here it is:
Pay what ever you like birthday sale for Crayon Physics Deluxe. You’ll get the full game if you pay anything. We accept all amounts of money. Pay 1 cent and you’ll get the game. Pay 5 dollars and you’ll make a me slightly happier man and you’ll get your game. Pay the usual 19.95$ and you’ll make me as happy as the chimp in that photo. The sale ends January 15th.

What about Crayon Physics Deluxe on iPhone? Is there any annual special?
January 8th, 2010 at 6:04 am
I went to the Indie Games blog for something entirely unrelated, I saw this sale, and I immediately paid you $5. Not because I wanted the game, but because I support these sales. World of Goo got $5 as well, for the same reason.
January 8th, 2010 at 6:09 am
Hi,
I played this game at a friends house and I absolutely adore the concept. at $20 this game is a good buy, but this sale is awesome.
The only thing I hope is that on the sequel you have bigger more elaborate maps. This game is a bit easy to beat I ran thru the whole thing in 2 hours.
January 8th, 2010 at 8:03 am
Awesome deal, but it’s downloading quite slowly. 5.0KB/sec or so.
Is it a server overload? Should I just wait for another day to download it?
January 8th, 2010 at 9:08 am
Has it really been a year? I remember pre-ordering this, and it was certainly worth that price.
Hope the sale works out for the better

Awesome! My brother emailed me about this and I immediately gave you $5.
I wish I had heard about the World of Goo sale. I’d buy that in a second for $5 too.
January 8th, 2010 at 12:16 pm
Thanks, guys! Hope you will collect an enormous amount of money this sale and create new amazing games!
All the best in a new year to all of you!

Great idea!
The offer finally gave me the incentive to buy it for the iPod and get it also on the PC by totalling it up to 5€.
I wish you lots of sales and good luck with that model.

To anyone who really likes this type of game, please support Petri by paying an amount relative to how much you want it!

I would buy it yet there is no mac version
January 8th, 2010 at 7:25 pm
Can someone provide me a download link to me? I made the donation but I did not see any link to download the game. Thanks a lot~
January 8th, 2010 at 7:33 pm
To all those not getting the link - after you enter your custom ‘donation’ amount through Paypal, you have a link that will take you back to the site. After this, you receive an e-mail at the account you have under Paypal, which will contain the download link.
January 8th, 2010 at 7:44 pm
How long should it take to receive the email with the download link?? I am checking Trash and Spam just in case. It is not there.

thanks!
January 9th, 2010 at 3:33 am
Thank you so much for this lovely gift, Mr. P.. Been looking forward to the perfect excuse to pick this up for the longest time now. Priceless. I hope you make a fat pile off cash this week.
(Paid $1 for it. I guess I COULD have bought 100 copies for my 99 closest friends instead, but I’m not THAT much of a cheap a**.)
January 9th, 2010 at 3:40 am
All you people who paid 1 cent are selfish fucks. Seriously, even a dollar is better than that.

oh, wow…petri’s not dead! ZOMG! nice thing:) too bad I already have the game from pre-order. I bought WoG from the birthday sale:)
January 9th, 2010 at 1:58 pm
What a good idea! Thank you, Kloonigames for a fine game and this offer! As soon as I get more money on my Paypal account, I’ll pay you more than $19.95 if I can get it to work on my machine. Crayon Physics can do some of the things only found in either very expensive or very expensive programs like Working Model.
@awesome: Crayon Physics (the old version) runs fine with Linux (most of the time) using a special Wine-version provided by playonlinux.com. This also contains an installer for a previously downloaded Crayon Physics Deluxe. I can’t get it to work yet because my PC doesn’t have a 3D graphics card, which seems to be required.
January 9th, 2010 at 3:35 pm
I also payed and later on I recieved the mail “Crayon Physics Deluxe is Ready”. But there was no futher text or link in this mail.
Where can I get the game from?

Unfortunately your front page video is broken for me - I’m using Chrome on Linux, which works fine with Flash sites including (usually) Vimeo.
I’ve tried using PlayOnLinux to get the demo .exe working on Linux through WINE, but it gives a blank screen after New Game. Oh well…
January 10th, 2010 at 2:26 pm
I already purchased via Steam but a back up copy is always nice.
January 10th, 2010 at 9:43 pm
Very well done. I will make a donation of $20. All you people who gave 1c….please dont insult the game maker by doing that. yes you could and get the game but its a matter of honor and support. especially when the game is good.
This is what drives innovation.
Keep it up Crazy Physics Guy
January 11th, 2010 at 6:10 am
I tried downloading but it failed several times to complete and it shows a message saying it’s been downloaded too many times and that I should write to support. I did write to support and am waiting for a response.
It would be nice to host these downloads someplace that’s scalable.
January 11th, 2010 at 8:03 am
I ponied up $6 total. My twisted reasoning: I figured the game would be around $5 soon on Steam anyway.
I like the fact that the game is DRM free with no draconian activation, just like World of Goo when they did the “pay what you want” sale. I can play through the game, forget about it for a year or so, and install it again on any machine with no hassles.
Are you going to post detailed B-day sales results like 2DBoy did? That would be sweet.
January 11th, 2010 at 9:34 am
To all of you who donated, but didn’t get an email with a download link (or you got BLANK EMAIL):
First thing you can do is try to use this: http://www.crayonphysics.com/resend_secretkey.php
If that doesn’t help email support@crayonphysics.com and you’ll get the download link. Unfortunately the sale is way more popular than I thought it would be. The problem with this is that there’s a ton of support emails and it might take a few days before you get your answer. Please be patient since I’m doing them as fast as I can.
Also to those who have other problems with the game
Email support@crayonphysics.com and you should get help.

January 11th, 2010 at 9:02 pm
@Petri: THANK YOU VERY MUCH - NOW IT WORKS !!!
January 11th, 2010 at 10:00 pm
I paid 10 bucks for it, and I agonized over buying it this way, or just buying it for full price from Steam.
I donated 10 bucks for the game. my rationalization of it was based off the fact that I’ll prolly only play it semi-occasionally.
January 11th, 2010 at 10:03 pm
Taking a look at World of Goo statistics page (”pay what you want”), the percentage Paypal gets, and since I can’t spare money right now, I’m going to wait. Then I’m going to get it later “full price” on Steam. I gladly pay around 10/15€ for good games like this one.
I admire Petri’s courage to make this kind of payment campaign. I wish good luck, Petri, I’ll help you out as soon as I can, it’s already in my “Steam’s cart”.

I bought it for $2. I REALLY wanted to pay more but I had a little over $3 in my checking account and I need to keep at least $1 in there. There is a long list of games I want but can’t afford so thanks for this, one down dozens to go.
If everyone donates at least $1-2 it adds up to quite a lot. The problem is when people donate 1 cent or 10 cents (if I remember that’s up to about 32 cents). That gets eaten up by paypal and he gets nothing. If you can actually afford to be buying games $5-10 is a steal. If not then $1 isn’t much to ask.
January 13th, 2010 at 12:19 am
Hi! I bought the game a few days ago, paid a small amount via Paypal but didn’t get any E-Mail confirmation or download-link. What can I do? Thanks!

I’ve gotten CP to work now and for me it really is one of the best games I’ve come across. I use the level editor to play around with and save my own configurations. Only gripe that it needs DirectX (Windows) or GLX (Linux), which none of my own PCs can do. Anyway, as promised I’ve donated $25. Happy birthday, Crayon Physics!
January 16th, 2010 at 3:55 am
Got it! Paid $4.99(USD), because I bout some games @ the Steam holiday sale in the $2.50-$5.00 range (like World of Goo & Trine) so I figured you’re in their same league!
January 17th, 2010 at 3:24 am
I bought two copies at $5 each. I feel like I got more than my money’s worth. Honestly, I bought them partly because of the concept. If it were $5 normally, I probably wouldn’t have bought it. I didn’t know the normal price when I bought my copies.
Pay what you want is a good concept. I hope it worked out for you.

January 17th, 2010 at 10:12 pm
I bought the game for $5 and it’s just so great, I love it! I hope you will give us some sale results like 2D Boy did for World of Goo! Happy B-day!
January 19th, 2010 at 4:58 am
I downloaded it from a link on Gamedev years ago now, enjoyed it, downloaded the full one by torrent when I found out it had gone commercial. It didn’t hold my interest for more than an hour or so but still fun and well made so I ‘bought’ a proper copy for $5 even though I have no intention of actually downloading it again. I did the same thing with World of Goo except donated $20 there because I played it on-and-off for a few weeks.
January 19th, 2010 at 4:59 am
To clarify the above, I don’t generally buy games because I don’t really play them much either. I’m happy to help support independent developers though, especially with such an honest promotion as this.
January 19th, 2010 at 5:45 pm
I won’t buy this game because it has no Linux support.
January 20th, 2010 at 9:06 am
Great promotional idea! Thank you, for a fine game and this fantastic offer!
January 20th, 2010 at 9:38 pm
So, how much did you make with this sale?
January 26th, 2010 at 8:03 pm
@Ape The game works fine on Linux using Wine, just so you know.
January 30th, 2010 at 3:42 pm
Hello,
Where is my game ?!
I paid for the BD sale but i didn’t receive any info !!!
Please give me some news !
February 2nd, 2010 at 12:29 pm
@Ape and ALinuxUser:
Yes, it does work on Linux at least when using the PlayOnLinux version of Wine. Unfortunately I’m not able to really use it on Linux because it runs much slower than on Windows (tested on the same PC). I also discovered when using the level editor, that CP slows down considerably after a while even on Windows, but regains its initial speed by quitting and restarting.
It would be interesting to see some statistics about your birthday promotion. Assuming that no copies were resold or bought by people who would pay the full price, was it worth it?
February 5th, 2010 at 12:21 am
Hello, please, give me an answer ? !
If you don’t send me the game, This is robbery !!!!

Hello,
I enjoyed the game a lot and my son can’t wait to get the game…. but it hasn’t come yet! How long would it take? I made a donation around January 10th.
Thanks,
Paulina
February 19th, 2010 at 11:06 pm
Bit late, but just wanted to note my gratitude towards the developer for not being a greedy bastard like some other developers/publishers out there. Since I could choose my own price I decided to send them $75 not because I feel the game’s worth it (It’s a good game, but not THAT good :P), but because it’s nice to see fair pricing schemes for once. Keep up the good work.
